Shared Propulsion Car ‘Flintstones Car’

Apr 05, 2008 I General, Technology.

Part four-seater bicycle, part work of art, this makeshift Buick Regal is pushing the boundaries of driving, quite literally.

Montreal artist Michel de Broin made the “Shared Propulsion Car” by hollowing-out the insides.

It has:

# no engine
# no transmission
# no floor
# no signal lights
# in place of headlights? The car features tea light-candle headlights
# the whole thing is entirely propelled by pedal power

With top speeds reaching no more than 15 km/hr, the vehicle uses traditional bicycle handbrakes.

The cyclers on the left control the propulsion on the left side, and the same goes for the two cyclers on the right. Should one side break earlier than the other, the car would pivot and turn.

wow thats messed up. what about the rhodes car, its a 4 wheeled bicycle and it is street legal. this is much safer than a rhodes car since its got metal all around it. i just dont understand why its so unsafe.

“the safety factor is………unsafe.” gotta love cops

Just read that you got off with the ticket. Nice one. Toronto cops hand out way too many of them anyway, just a cash grab for the city. Why else would they park practically everyday around the corner from a ‘no right-turn’ sign? Three officers have nothing better to do? Not guns or drugs to confiscate? Muppets the lot of them.

  8. indigoattila Says:

This video is a piece of art. What are the chances of that many cops showing up? Hilarious. Congratulations on winning today. Well done.

This guy is awesome , Good statement and a good fight with our legal system. You rock

  10. fakenphoney Says:

dirty pigs pick on the little guys when there are thousands of illegal street racers killing innocent people. Canada is becoming a police state.

  11. ptadich Says:

Just be glad the cops in Toronto are considerate enough of the law to let this sort of thing happen. Lots of people around the world aren’t so lucky!

Nothing wrong with the cop pulling it off the road because (at the time) he thought it was a “car” and if it is a “car” it IS unsafe as a car. But when finally ruled that it was no longer a car the cop was reportedly still “ticked off” because he still claims its unsafe. This is where the cop is wrong. The courts have spoken. You did your job. Let it go.Amazing job on the video.

Where is the high speed car chase while the four in the car peddle like hell to give their ass a ride…. lol

  15. myndenway Says:

Too bad these young cops don’t have better judgment, so we don’t waste the court’s time deciding what he should have been able to decide for himself. A bicycle that looks like a car is still a bicycle.

Thanks for your gesture of solidarity, we at Mercer Union appreciate the feedback. However, having seen the way the police officer conducted himself both in court yesterday and last fall, it should be stated for the record that his conduct was thoroughly professional. Slurs such as “dirty pigs” are entirely inappropriate and we wish to distance ourselves from them.

I don’t see where myndenway said any thing about dirty pigs. But what he did say I think is valid; I too think the cop should have used better judgment. Heck the cop on the bike(@ 3:37) almost sounded like he disagreed with cops ticketing.

Obviously they were driving in flat areas but that thing would be pretty scary on elevations… either going up or down hill it would pose a pretty serious threat.Neat idea though… just not a thing to take out into general traffic… unless there’s a parade.

  40. mercerunion Says:

You did not use a slur, that part of the reply was referencing some previous comments by other posters. The wording of our message did not make that clear, and we apologize.
